Coming Mint Attractions:
The Hits Just Keep On Coming.
By Norm Glovsky - Staff Editor at Chattanooga Coin
Should I keep adding gold or silver coins to my collection?? What if inflation returns? Will the dollar be worth less – or more? Now many folks in other Mideast countries will join those anti-government demonstrations started recently in Egypt?? If they do, will the value of silver coins go up? Are copper prices about to soar??? If so, will the Mint stop manufacturing those handy one-cent coins?? If so, how will we pay for those delicious $1.98 candy bars?
Despite these ever-present pressing questions on the minds of many investor/collectors – even myself -- there has never been a more exciting time for those involved in the most enjoyable hobby of coin collecting. As the poet so well put it: “The world is so full of a number of things…. “That I’m sure we should all be as happy as kings….” Take the U.S. Mint for example. Its ongoing and upcoming new product line for the first six months of 2011 is enough to bring joy to even the most jaded investor/ collector.
Consider:
The long-awaited circulation quality 2011 Kennedy Half Dollars hit the hobby on Feb. 15, 2011. On that date they were released in two-roll sets and in 200-coin bags marked with their mints of origin – either “P” or “D,” along with “$100,” the value of the bag’s contents. Sure, these handsome coins are deemed “circulation quality” but when was the last time you received a genuine Kennedy half in circulation?
Hint: Now’s the perfect time to add some of these handsome new coins to your collection.
Two days later the Andrew Johnson $1 Coin went into circulation with a ceremonial launch at the Andrew Johnson National Historic Site in Greeneville, Tenn. This 17th release in the Mint’s Presidential Dollar Series again is produced for use in everyday cash transactions (I’ve personally never seen any $1 coins in circulation) although, like most collectors, I still enjoy rolls of Susan Bs and Sacajawea’s among my holdings. Like others in the Presidential series, the Johnson has its mint of origin uniquely incused on the coin’s edge.
And the Mint has not forgotten the First Ladies. 2011’s first 24-karat First Spouse Gold Coins feature Eliza Johnson, Julia Grant, Lucy Hayes and Lucretia Garfield. These new First Spouse designs will also be featured on 1 5/16-inch Bronze Medals priced very affordably and certainly elegant additions to any collection.
Then there are the America the Beautiful quarters and silver coin designs honoring two national parks, two national military parks and a recreation area – the sixth in a series of coins honoring national sites throughout the U.S. and its territories until 2021. These latest additions to the series feature Gettysburg National Military Park in Pennsylvania, Glacier National Park in Montana, Olympic National Park in Washington, Vicksburg National Military Park in Mississippi and the Chickasaw National Recreation Area in Oklahoma.
Then there is the brand-new 2011 Mint Set (and let’s not forget this year’s latest Silver Proof Sets), this year containing 28 different coins, including but not limited to four of the newest Presidential Dollars, two Native American Dollars and five of the America the Beautiful Quarters – all featuring, for the first time ever, according to the Mint, a brilliant “satin finish.”
Honor the Military must be the Mint’s watchword this year, as well it should be, with the issuance of the 2011 United States Army Silver Dollar. This strike is part of the larger 2011 United States Army Commemorative Coin Program which includes a half dollar clad coin and a $5 gold coin.
Along the same theme is the 2011 Medal of Honor Silver Dollar, part of the 2011 Medal of Honor Commemorative Coin Program. This includes a $5 gold coin. Authorization for these coins, which celebrates the 150 years since the first Medal of Honor was authorized by Congress in 1861, and signed into law by President Barack Obama in 2009. It honors those who have received the highest award for valor a member of the armed services can receive – so special an award that fewer than 3,500 of the medals have been awarded in the 150 years since they were authorized.
Obviously, there’s never been a better time for investor/collectors to really enjoy their hobby. With such a great selection of brand new and exciting products available from the U.S. Mint – and, of course, from right here at Chattanooga Coin Company – and with demand for them building, now’s the perfect time to join in the fun and add some or all of them to your holdings..
And remember: The coins listed above only represent the first six months of the Mint’s 2011 production. The July-December 2011 releases promise to be equally as exciting for the eager investor/collector. We’ll certainly keep you posted.
So don’t be shy, plan your collecting activities for the new year now and order some of these brand-new releases while they’re still available – and affordable. You’ll be glad you did.
You’ll be immediately swept up in the joy of pure collecting, without having to ask, “What’s it worth?” These exciting coins are just “lovely to look at and delightful to own.”
You’ll be adding unique and beautifully designed coins to your holdings just for the fun of it – just because they’re exciting and different, a joy to own, and to proudly show off to relatives and friends And isn’t that why you started collecting coins in the first place – just for the fun of it??
That’s what got me started back in the day – I remember it well. I found my first Indian Head cent in my paper route payment and marveled at its unusual design, so different from any other coins I’d ever seen, and tucked it away as my first collectible. This simple act started me off in the interesting and profitable hobby that has never disappointed since that long-ago time. - Weeks |
