Bad Axe, what’s that you say? Bad Axe is a small town in Michigan where this editor negotiated and bought one of the premier deals of the last few years. For sake of confidentiality we will call our dealer friend – Rudy. He is a long time resident of the area, single (for our lady buyers) and very smart when it comes to business. We started out with Rudy when he offered us wheat cent rolls he was selling on EBay and sorta ran out of money and patience. Rudy has a penny rolling machine and was a big dealer in pennies…all kinds especially wheats and better semi and key coins. Some of the past Coin Wholesaler ads you’ve seen came from Rudy which we appropriately stamped “Bad Axe Wheat Cent Roll”. That was the beginning months ago while the iron was hot and Rudy needed to raise money.
Today, Rudy has finally decided to sell everything and move way south to the tropics, maybe Jamaica or another coastal city. His idea of retirement is to sell out, move south and live on a boat happily ever after. Our hope is with him and because we wanted that dream to come true Rudy has been loading us up with his own “store closing” merchandise. In fact for the next few issues we have named our sale, the "Bad Axe Coin & Currency Collection." This issue includes just the tip of the iceberg as Rudy owned coins, sets, a little gold, a lot of pennies and a “bunch” of other treasures bought off the streets for the last 25 years. Rudy is a little weird in his style but the sharpest businessman we’ve dealt with in many a years. In confidence he revealed that most of the goodies he had were holdings put back for a rainy day when he still had his store in Bad Axe. But since closing it was just sitting around “doing nothing” according to Rudy. We found it interesting when Rudy told us he was moving way south but only after his girlfriend left him over the store closing. Rudy then decided he was financially better off by himself instead of a girlfriend and Uncle Sam. I know the story sounds weird but in the real world it happens all the time and in the case of our massive Bad Axe collection it was no surprise that Rudy did what he believed was in his best interest. Obviously it’s a little “kooky” but that’s what he told this editor.
Now, for the good part. Bad Axe is here and we are loaded down with some fantastic products accumulated over two decades in a place that no one has hard of or really cares about. But in the next several months you will come to appreciate this deal and better yet – own part of the collection that you would only find in an estate or auction. So much good stuff, it's impossible to publish it all at this juncture. If you’ve purchased anything so far with the Bad Axe name you know this is the real deal. In fact this entire catalog is devoted to the Bad Axe items and some of the strangest and weirdest “junk” and collectibles we’ve ever advertised.
Picture yourself liquidating your dad’s grocery business, hardware store or “Coin and Collectible” shop that he spent 25 years building. Some great, great deals that may be difficult to part with especially since I’m a collector at heart. Rudy was a hoarder and kept cigar labels, old posters, WWI and WWII relics, postcards and even a few guns. But coins were his passion until he needed money. Among the upcoming items are: collections of early cents both Lincolns and Indians, bulk Indian rolls, old timey large size paper money like the 1899 Black Eagle, national currency from 1902, arrowheads from the Mississippi riverbeds in Memphis, $2 1/2 Indian gold – some raw, some certified. A ton of earlier proof sets like 1940, 1941, 1942, offgrade large cents, 2¢ pieces, Flying Eagles and of course Carson City Morgans. We even found BU rolls of 1942 – 1945 Mercury Dimes and gem silver wartime nickels. A lot of old Canadian tokens, large size Canadian cents, polar bear coins and more of many collections he bought out of Canada.
Most (a few exceptions) of these items are limited to one or two pieces or collections. Therefore be warned – these items will sell quick !
