A little known fact…During World War II, U.S. Military personnel serving in the North Africa campaign (Torch) were paid in CASH! To protect U.S. money supplies in the area, ‘North Africa’ notes were printed to use for payments. Should the Germans prevail, these notes could be instantly ‘de-monetized’ by the Treasury. Similarly, ‘Hawaii’ notes were printed for use in the U.S. Territory of Hawaii.
